This enables two cables terminated with standard Ethercon plugs to be mated. It is also possible to connect standard RJ45 connectors but the joint will not be as strong as when using the locking Etheron shells. So much equipment these days makes use of low cost Ethernet cabling – e.g digital audio, video, DMX and control signaling. While the standard RJ45 connector is perfectly fine for some applications, uses where it may be getting connected/disconnected on a regular basis can lead to damage both to the cable and to the plug. Neutrik produced the Ethercon Shell to address this problem. Suitable for all NE8MC* connectors and standard RJ45 plugs.
